What did Thomas Jefferson mean when he referred to the "pursuit of happiness"?
My thought is that pursue means to chase or go after. Happiness is not handed to us on a silver platter. It is a choice.

Happy 4th of July,Carma!
ReplyDeleteIt's Shirley and I'm FINALLY catching up on the assignments.
I think this is a day to let freedom ring, be thankful for our freedoms, don't abuse our freedoms and have fun. We need to be responsible to ourselves and to each other. I hope you enjoy the day!
Hi, Carma -
ReplyDeleteHappy fourth of July!
Thank you very much for affirming that we can choose to be happy.

Shirley, I'm so happy to see you posting. You can do this.
ReplyDeleteDorit, sometimes it is hard to choose happiness because it is easier to wallow in our poor pitiful me mode. But happiness is worth the struggle.
ReplyDeleteJudy, thank you and a safe an happy fourth to you and your family.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your fresh home grown produce.
Happiness is as happiness does. I think Forest Gump said that in the film. It's very true anyway. Dorothy
ReplyDeleteHey, Carma,
ReplyDeleteYeah, happiness is a choice.
So why do so many people CHOOSE to be unhappy?
Gee. Seems like a no-brainer to me.
Have a wonderful 4th. Stay safe!

Carma...you hit it right on the head. So many people do choose the hardway of happiness instead of making a positive way of one's life. Happy late 4th of July!
ReplyDeleteWarm regards,
Donna
Well said, Carma. Too often "happiness" is romanticized and people fail to realize they can choose it more easily than they can pursue it. We all need the reminder once in a while -- thanks for providing it!

Hi, Carma,
ReplyDeleteBeautiful post. And yes, happiness is a choice. Bad things do happen, but it's what we do with it that counts.
Have a wonderful weekend.
